The Pakistan Clearing House Mechanism (CHM) was established to facilitate the sharing of data and information on the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity between and amongst various stakeholders in the country. This is part of Pakistan’s commitment to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), which created the Clearing House Mechanism pursuant to Article 18.3 of the Convention. The CHM aims to contribute significantly to the implementation of the CBD by promoting and facilitating technical and scientific cooperation amongst parties, other Governments and stakeholders.
Pakistan, as a signatory of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is implementing various Programmes of Work (PoW) towards the fulfillment of objectives of the Biodiversity Action Programme (BAP). Under its Article 18.3, the CBD has established a Clearing House Mechanism (CHM). As per decision X/15, CHM his is meant to contribute significantly to the CBD and the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011- 2020 through effective information services, scientific and technical cooperation, knowledge sharing and information exchange. The work programme for the Clearing House Mechanism should be considered in the broad context of supporting the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and of the national biodiversity strategies and action plans at the national level.

National Focal Person of CBD & CHM
"Our nation is blessed with an immense diversity of biological resources. As a Party to CBD, we are committed to conservation, sustainable use and equitable sharing of benefits arising out of utilisation of these biological resources. In achieving these global and national objectives, we are privileged to have functional support of the CSOs, scientists, academia, R&D organisations, farmers, fishermen, private sector companies, concerned provincial departments, federal ministries, UN agencies, and international donors. The Government of Pakistan, the Parliament and its standing committees are very concerned about biodiversity conservation and regularly provide policy guidelines spanning over species to ecosystems of Pakistan. I appreciate the contribution of WWF in establishing Pakistan's National Biodiversity CHM and wish that all stakeholders make best use of exchange of information and data towards effective implementation of CBD Strategic Plan including its 20 targets, which hope to be achieved by the year 2020. Our Government will continue to facilitate provinces and all stakeholders in achieving these international commitments"
